Saving money with UV disinfection.
When professionally installed inside your HVAC system, Aerapy Animal Health’s UV light will break down and clear away mold and biofilm that, over time, build up on coils, plenums, drain pans, and ducts. By doing so, UV can lower your energy cost by reducing pressure drop and improving heat transfer, increasing cooling capacity. Further, UV makes the need for yearly coil cleaning a thing of the past. As long as UV lamps are regularly changed per manufacturer specifications, coils will remain clean, eliminating the need for additional maintenance cost.
The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is a professional association dedicated to the advancement of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems design and construction. In their published “Field Study of Energy Use-Related Effects of Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation of Cooling Coil” here is what the researchers found in their investigation of installing UV to mitigate biofouling of a chilled water cooling coil:
“The application of UVGI on fouled cooling coils in an operating AHU (air handling unit) shows a 10% decrease in pressure drop and a 14.55% increase in heat transfer…”
