Beginning this month, pet parents who choose to board their pets at PetSmart and bring their dogs to Doggie Day Camp will now benefit from an increased level of health protection. PetSmart, the largest specialty pet retailer of services and solutions, made a $1 million investment to install PetAirapy, a proprietary state-of-the-art air purification system that uses UV technology, in its PetsHotels.
PetAirapy was exclusively designed for the animal care industry to help protect against airborne germs and allergens by using ultraviolet germicidal irradiation that has been used and trusted by hospitals for nearly 100 years. PetAirapy cleans the air without using harsh chemicals to help protect against contagious diseases such as Canine Influenza.
“Canine Influenza and other causes of Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease are considered a threat to dogs across the country,” said Jennifer Freeman, DVM, PetSmart’s resident veterinarian and pet care expert. “Animal hospitals, dog parks, kennels and day care facilities are not immune to outbreaks. While PetSmart already practices the highest safety standards in the industry, using PetAirapy in our PetsHotels adds another layer of protection and gives pet parents the added comfort of knowing their pet will be breathing clean, purified air to keep them happier and healthier while they are in our care.”
More than 200 PetSmart stores throughout North America offer boarding facilities known as PetSmart PetsHotels. These full-service hotels for cats and dogs feature 24/7 safety-certified associates and an on-call veterinarian. They also are home to PetSmart’s Doggie Day Camp, a supervised, fun place for dogs to play and to enjoy toys, treats and organized activities.
